Egyptian police are using gay apps like Grindr to lure homosexuals and arrest them. According to Dalia Abdel-Hameed, a researcher with the Egyptian Human Rights Initiative, he found that police are using the technique to lure their victims.
Technically, homosexuality is not criminalized in the country, but police use loopholes to arrest gays, accusing them, for example, of “incitement to debauchery.”
Last month, police arrested part of the audience for a concert at a rock festival in the country for raising the LGBT Pride banner. Some victims even underwent an anal examination to prove possible homosexual relationship.
