A DNA test confirmed that it was from Itaberlly Lozano, 17, who died in December, the body found charred in January in Cravinhos sugarcane field in the interior of São Paulo. According to the Civil Police, the boy was killed by his own mother, with the help of his stepfather, for being gay.
The report, which was published by the Instituto Médico Legal (IML) in São Paulo, was released on Thursday, March 13. The remains, which remained in the IML of Ribeirão Preto awaiting DNA results, were released to the family and were buried on Friday, On Wednesday.
The circumstances of the murder shocked the city of 34 thousand inhabitants, in the region of Ribeirão Preto. The Civil Police and the Public Ministry accuse the mother of the boy, supermarket manager Tatiana Ferreira Lozano Pereira, 33, of plotting the death of her son for not accepting her sexual orientation. She had the help of three other young men for the crime, executed the night of December 29, and the husband, stepfather of the boy, to hide the body.
Itaberlly was attracted to his mother’s house and stabbed to death in the neck. Tatiana was helped by Victor Roberto da Silva, 19, Miller da Silva Barissa, 18, and by a girl of 16.
According to the investigation, the two boys beat and tried to hang Itaberlly, but, as he resisted, his own mother stabbed him. Tatiana and her husband, the tractor driver Alex Canteli Pereira, 30, took the body to the cane field and set it on fire.
Six days before he was murdered, the boy posted a social network that his mother had beaten him for being gay. In the text recovered by the police he writes: “Remembering that this woman whom I called mother beat me up and put a mlk (kid) reindeer behind me to beat me, put me out of the house and gave me a step (beating) Do you know why? Because I’m gay. ”
The couple and the two boys are in jail. The girl is in custody, as police believe she also participated in the murder. The suit is being held in court because it involves minors, and the next hearing is scheduled for August 2.
The prosecution accuses the mother of homophobia and wants to bring the accused to the jury, upholding the double-qualified homicide thesis. The defense of the couple attributes the crime to the two young men who were called by her only to give a “corrective” to the son.
Already according to the defendant of these defendants, they point to the mother as executor of the murder. Itaberlly’s Facebook page has been turned into a memorial, with messages of mourning and requests for justice.
