High schools begin to accept students’ social names

The Minister of Education, José Mendonça Filho, signed last Wednesday (17) the homologation that allows the social name for transgenderers to become a right for high school students.

The measure is already valid for this school year 2018 and aims to reduce the numbers of school dropout by the trans population. Often, transsexuals give up continuing their studies because of bullying suffered within schools.

The next step is to empower and qualify the trans population for the job market. Alarming figures show that 90% are in prostitution, while 6% work in informal markets or underemployment. Only 4% have jobs with career flow.
