Rio de Janeiro took a step forward this week. Now, the social name in health services is transvestites and transsexuals right across the state.
Although a decree in force has a decree in force for six years guaranteeing this to transsexuals and transvestites in all municipal services, this was not always possible due to the ill will of attendants, especially in the health sector.
Now, a new protocol defines that the use of the social name in these matters is irrevocable. Coordinator of Sexual Diversity of the city of Rio de Janeiro, Nélio Georgini affirms that the decision leaves visible in the electronic cadastre only the name chosen by the person, hiding the record.
Those interested should register in a computerized system in the Regional Emergency Coordination of Barra da Tijuca. The intention is to make all health services, both municipal and state adopt the protocol, which also aims at reducing violence against transsexuals and transvestites in Rio.
