The Child and Youth Court of the district of Uberlândia, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Minas Gerais (MPMG), granted early protection for a 12-year-old girl to undergo psychological and psychiatric treatments and follow-ups in order to protect her right Fundamental to health.
In July of this year, the adolescent went to the Office of the Attorney General for the Defense of the Rights of the Child and Adolescent, accompanied by the mother and professionals of the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), claim that despite having been registered as belonging to the male gender , Behaves as a person of the feminine gender and would like to do a psychosocial accompaniment, even without receiving the support of the father who by prejudice refuses to authorize the treatment.
The decision was made after the prosecutor Jadir Cirqueira de Souza collected the maternal agreement and heard the multidisciplinary team of UFU, which states that the adolescent has sexual identity disorder. In addition, the team emphasizes that the use of medication is preventive, does not affect the training of young people and respects their wishes, ensuring the protection of physical and mental health.
According to health professionals, blocking puberty at its first signs prevents any characteristic, whether feminine or masculine, from developing, allowing the young person to confirm their gender throughout adolescence. Treatment can be stopped at any time if there is no further desire to proceed, allowing the characteristics of the genetic genre to develop again.
